Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an adoption fee?

Yes, the adoption fee for a puppy is $600.00  Any neutered or spayed adult dog/toddler is $800.00

Is the adoption fee negotiable?

Absolutely not!  The adoption donations are desperately needed for the rescue to pay for transport of the dogs into Southern Ontario, vet fees and many other costs associated with rescuing the dogs.

Why is the adoption fee for a toddler or adult more than a puppy?

All of our dogs over the age of 5-6 months are spayed/neutered, vaccinated for DHPP, Rabies, Lepto and Bordatella.  They are tested for heartworm (4DX), fecal, are microchipped and put on heartworm & flea /tick prevention.  The cost to the rescue for every adult is over $900.00 and this does not include the cost to transport them from the communities to Thunder Bay nor the cost to transport them to the Guelph area.  On average a dog will cost the rescue $1,100.00 - $1,200.00.  This also means that when you adopt a toddler or an adult the only vetting you have for the next year is their booster for lepto and their ongoing preventatives until the dog requires its annual vaccinations the following year.  Puppies under the age of 5 months are vet checked, given their age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped, fecal tested and put on heartworm/flea & tick preventatives

I am outside of Southern Ontario, can I still adopt one of your dogs?

If we are able to find a volunteer who can conduct a home visit in your area and you are able to travel to Southern Ontario where the dog is fostered you may be considered as an applicant.  We do not adopt outside of Ontario

I submitted an application - what happens next?

Once you submit your application the application will be reviewed.  If your application is accepted we will conduct a phone screen with the adopter and call on your vet.  Once this has passed we schedule a home visit followed by calling your references.

May I put in an application for pre-approval

Yes we encourage you to apply for pre approval and watch our website for new postings of dogs coming in.  Pre-approved adopters will be offered dogs that come into rescue prior to us posting them for adoption. Pre-approved simply means that the work on our end is already done, you have been screened, you let us know what you are looking for and when a dog comes in that we believe is a good fit, we offer the dog to you, there is no commitment on your end until the right dog for you is found.

Can I meet the puppies to pick mine?

All of our rescues are fostered in private homes and we do not allow puppy meet and greets until the interested party is 100% screened. If you are approved for a puppy adoption our adoption team will reach out to you with those available and your preferences will be considered.
